Ask Reddit Q & A

Most of my guilty pleasures revolve around junk food and trashy reality TV and I mostly indulge in them in moderation. I do have a daily indulgence and that is reading Reddit. I don't have an account so I've never actively participated in the site but there are half a dozen subreddits I check out on a daily basis and another dozen I peruse once and awhile. One of my dailies is Ask Reddit... and it occurred to me that it would also make for good blog fodder now and again to answer the some of the top questions.

What Product Do You Like That Has Been Discontinued?
The obvious answer for this is Vanilla Coke because it is darn near impossible to find here in Canada.

What Is One YouTube Video That Never Fails To Cheer You Up?
I love the Swedish Chef. He's my spirit animal, he bops around the kitchen mumbling and singing to himself, making a mess and doing somewhat questionable things.

What Obscure Thing Do You Know?
Sometimes I think the only thing I know is obscure things! Trivia games have been banned from our friend group until further notice because I always win. It's not because I'm particularly book smart but I watch a lot of documentaries, listen to history podcasts and read a lot and have a really good memory.

What Current Trend Do You Wish Would Be Dead Now?
Experts. Somehow we've entered a society where everyone needs to be an expert about the thing they're interested in and there's no such thing as being mildly interested in anything.

What's Your Favourite Foreign Language Song?
I think my actual answer for this is "Kumbaya" because it makes me feel all kinds of happy and nostalgic. There is also a song called 'Saskatchewan" by Les Trois Accords that we used to listen to a lot in high school that has a lot of good memories attached.

Your Brain Is Like "Inside Out", Which Five Emotions Are In Headquarters?
Curious, Nervous, Joy, Sorrow & Concern.

What Are The Best Christmas Movies?
National Lampoon Christmas Vacation will always be my favourite. Elf is a close second. If we're also talking about Christmas Specials than I'm also going with Charlie Brown's Christmas and Muppet Family Christmas.

What Are You Bad At?
Asking for help and being confident.

What Is The Weirdest Thing In Your Wallet?
My wallet is usually pretty organized, the weirdest thing in there right now is probably a store discount card that expired back in June. My purse on the other hand...there's usually some weird stuff in there.

What Was Your Senior Quote?

My yearbook quote was from Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I remember agonizing over the decision and even though it's not something that comes up often I am still really happy with my choice. "You be you & I'll be me, today & today & today, and let's trust the future to tomorrow. Let the stars keep track of us. Let us ride our own orbits & trust that they will meet. May our reunion be not a finding but a sweet collision of destinies. Love & Love & Love Again."

Are you a causal Reddit browser? Do you remember your senior quote? It's not something I think about daily but this question peeked my curiosity!

Back on the Bright Side

If you happened to stop by on Friday it will come as no surprise that last week was not great. Big thumbs down to last week. The good news is that it's a new week and this week I'm back on the bright side.

I had forgot that weeks ago I agreed to help chaperone a sleepover for a group of Rangers (the oldest group of Girl Guides). Help chaperone is probably a bit of a stretch, more along the lines of hang out with a group of incredibly awesome young ladies. Since I didn't have to be at the sleepover until 6:00 I spent my Saturday tidying up my make shift craft room and then I spent some time watching The Pioneer Woman and eating chicken wings in my most unflattering of $10 Wal-Mart jogging pants. It was lovely.

The sleepover started with pizza and then we headed to do an Escape Room. If you're not familiar with the concept, the easiest way to explain is a giant, physical puzzle. Our group of six entered a room and had an hour to solve two questions related to the mystery we had been given at the beginning. There were about a dozen locked drawers, boxes and closets within the room and by solving clues found around the room you were able to figure out the combinations to the locks, which would reveal another clue or lead to more locks. It was so much fun! They seem to be gaining in popularity so if there's not one near by you now there probably will be soon.

We ended the night the way all good sleepovers should end, huddled under blankets in a dimly lit living room discussing insider info about various Guiding events and general life. Sunday morning we woke up and ate pancakes before going our separate ways. I stopped in to pick up a few groceries on my way home and then got to work on my to do list, but not before eating samosas for lunch which I've been craving for the past two weeks.

I unpacked, put on a load of laundry, showered and had every intention of continuing the string of productivity. Instead I took a nap. It was lovely and I didn't feel even a little bit guilty! When I woke up I set to work making Sunday supper - roasted asparagus, roasted potatoes and cajun seasoned chicken breast. And cooked enough chicken to have for work lunches all week, which is always a win. I did a bit of Project Life-ing before watching Big Brother and crawling into bed by 10:30.

So I'm going into this week feeling overall better about life. It's amazing what a weekend of tasty food, good company and exciting adventures can do for a person's mood. I've two and a half weeks left of my office job contract and then I'm off to visit H. for a few days before switching into camp mode for the summer. So here's hoping I can stay planted on the bright side!

Autumn Extravaganza Weekend

A while back my friend R. & I decided I would make the 6 hour drive to visit her for a weekend and during that weekend we would have an "Autumn Extravaganza". A weekend which would include wearing cute fall outfits (leggings, boots, scarves and sweaters), drinking seasonal caffeinated beverages and evening strolls.

I arrived Friday evening and we were both pretty tired, me from a long day of driving and R. from her long week of doing her teaching internship. So we made a list of all the things we wanted to do over the weekend, watched Grey's Anatomy and spent some quality time catching up before we called it a day.

Saturday we got up, got ready and headed downtown to the Farmer's Market. Our first stop was a local cafe for coffees to sip on while we browsed the booths. Neither of us bought anything but it was fun to look. Next up we headed to a walking trail and went for a fall stroll. It was actually pretty warm out and by the end of the trail we both admitted we were a little overdressed.

That afternoon we headed to an Apple Orchard. I've been to plenty of pumpkin patches but the apple orchard was a first! We picked a bunch of apples, including the one pictured below which came off the tree with the perfect stem and single leaf still attached! We used some of the apples for apple pancakes Sunday morning and they turned out delicious!

Sunday we headed into the city for a quick trip to the mall. I ended up getting a shirt on sale for $5 which was exciting but my quest for a perfect plaid shirt was unsuccessful. We headed to Chapters and picked up another caffeinated beverage to sip on while we browsed. I could spend an entire day in Chapters looking at books. I settled for two books in a series and can't wait to start reading them!
Sunday evening we at supper watched The Amazing Race and enjoyed our last few hours together.
I headed home early this morning. R. had to be in school by 8 so I was on the road by 8! For the first hour of my drive I got to listen to a local radio station which plays the most ridiculous selection of music. We listen to it whenever we're in the camp car so I couldn't help listen to it when I had the chance. This morning it played country, 50s pop and disco!

I made it home safe & sound early this afternoon and now I'm relaxing in my sweat pants!
